PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Catholic University men's rowing team boated three crews at the Head of the Schuylkill regatta on Saturday. They put on a stellar performance and came home decorated with a gold medal and a silver metal.
The varsity eight boat secured a goal medal for the third consecutive year at this Regatta. This year's crew featured a veteran squad who has been together all season. They are coming off of a successful outing at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass., and continued to show off their skill. The squad finished in 12:25.197 to finish first amongst the Divison III programs and 18th overall.
The second varsity eight boat featured a new crew ready for competition. The team clocked a time of 13:08.478 to place fifth in the Divison III rankings and 35th overall.
A novice crew also put a boat in the water today, making their racing debut in style. They earned a silver medal after being the second Divison III program to finish. Their final time was 17:33.553 to place 15th overall.
"The fall season allows Catholic to compete against big Division I programs and gain valuable experience," said head coach
Katie O'Driscoll. "The crews' hard work paid off and their determination was evident as they were able to come in ahead of many established programs."
The Cardinal's next race is the Head of the Occaquan on Saturday, Nov. 4.
