Cardinals Compete in Head of the Charles for Second Time in Program History

BOSTON, Mass.- The Catholic University men's rowing team traveled up the coast to compete in the iconic Head of the Charles this past weekend. They placed 36th among a competitive field of 42 teams in the Men's Collegiate Eights event.

The conditions were rough with strong headwinds making the course difficult to navigate, but coxswain Matthew Blomgren directed his squad confidently. The team beat out six other boats and recorded a time of 16:56.828. Fellow conference rival Adrian College was featured in the race and the Cardinals were just six seconds off their pace.

The first time Catholic competed in the Head of the Charles was in 2021. Since the last trip, the Cardinal have worked to tighten the gap between their time and the first place finisher to under 30 seconds.

Tufts University won the event with a time of 15:25.428 with La Salle Rowing coming in right behind them in 15:30.800. Less than one second separated the next three finishers in Wesleyan, Williams College and Temple.

The Cardinals will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Head of the Schuylkill next Saturday, October 28.
