MADISON, N.J. - The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team picked up their first win of the season to Drew, a Landmark Conference rival. The Cardinals scored 148.5 points while the Rangers were held to 142.5.
Catholic snagged the lead early with a photo finish event one, the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Tara Wiarda, Bella Mugno, Kaitlin Patt and
Katie Herman touched the wall just 0.03 seconds ahead of their competitors and came in first with a time of 1:53.53.
It didn't take long for the Cardinals to take first place again. This time it was freshman
Annie Zeigler who swam a 2:06.65 in the 200-yard freestyle. Her splits were 29.29, 32.00, 32.54 and 32.82 respectively. Wiarda followed that by picking up her second and blue ribbons of the day in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke. She recorded times of 1:00.90 and 2:11.11 respectively. Freshman
Grace Kelly joined the leaderboard with a time of 1:10.77 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Herman continued the short-distance wins in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle with times of 25.03 and 54.94 respectively.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Izzy Giannetto, Emily Albans, Ava Snyder, and
Herman wrapped things up with an astounding 9-second victory with a time of 3:46.49.
Catholic has a week off from competition before traveling to Scranton on Saturday, October 28 to take on the Royals. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
