WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team fell to Mary Washington, 138-124, in a very tight duel meet on Saturday afternoon.

As scores remained close throughout the day, Catholic pushed to within three points (105-102) with just three events remaining as a result of a convincing swim from sophomore Ava Snyder the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.91).

Snyder also claimed a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching just under six seconds faster than the quickest Eagle.

Katie Herman won the freestyle sprint, powering to the wall more than two seconds faster than everyone else in the field. Herman's time of 24.17 is her second-fastest this season, just .07 seconds off the program record she set against Drew on Oct. 15. The Cardinals went one-two-three in the event, as Emily Blaskovich (26.21) and Emma Gould (26.55) followed Herman to the finish.

Herman added two more wins for Catholic as she also touched first in the 100 free (55.55) and swam the anchor leg of the 200 free relay. The freshman was the only swimmer in the pool to produce a split under 25 seconds, coming back in 24.35.

The Cardinals also produced the top-three times in the 200-yard backstroke as freshman Emily Albans claimed victory ahead of Alexa Hipp (2:16.28) and Maura Sadowski (2:18.09). Alban's winning time of 2:11.73 was just one-tenth off of her collegiate best.

Gould swam to victory in the 200 free (2:03.21), outtouching Mary Washington's Megan Kim by just .53 seconds. Gould also joined Herman, Albans and Blaskovich on the 200 free relay team that ended the meet with a triumph.

The loss is the first of the season for the Cardinals, who sit at 6-1 and a perfect 4-0 in Landmark Conference action.

Catholic returns to the pool deck next Saturday for its final home meet of the season. The Cardinals will welcome the Sea Gulls of Salisbury for Senior Day. The meet will start at 1 p.m. with senior day programming beginning prior.
