WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's swimming and diving team took home a hard-fought victory over Marymount (Va.) on Friday evening.
Catholic (5-1, 3-1 LC) trailed by seven points (87-80) entering the final two events but clutch swims in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay pushed the Cardinals to victory.
Tristan Burrola and William Crecca swam to a one-two finish in the penultimate event to combine for 13 points. Burrola won the event swimming 1:02.93 and Crecca followed him to the wall in 1:03.83.
The Cardinals quartet Daniel Green, Jack Hufner, Ellis Prescott and Nathan Ober finished the meet with victory in the 200 free relay as Ober anchored the team back to the wall in 22.14, the quickest split in the field. The team clocked in at 1:29.83, more than a second and a half faster than Marymount's top team.
Crecca and Ober both won individual events as Crecca outswam the field by over two seconds in the 100-yard freestyle (49.27) and Ober breezed to victory in the 50 free (22.00).
Hufner, Burrola, Green and Crecca combined for a win in the 200-yard medley relay as well, clocking in at 1:40.58.
Tyler Ziegler's men face a quick turnaround as they return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Cardinals will welcome the Eagles of Mary Washington to DuFour for a duel meet.
