WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic University continued a strong start to the season with a dominating 203-94 victory over Scranton on Saturday afternoon. Catholic won 15 of the 16 events on Saturday, placing first and second in 10 of them.
The Cardinals bookended the event with relay wins in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Alexa Hipp, Madeline Doucette, Angele Parral, and Katie Herman combined to win the 200 medley with a time of 1:52.89. Herman, Emma Gould, Maura Sadowski, and Ava Snyder were the winning relay team in the 400 free.
Hipp had a fantastic day, earning wins in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke races with times of 1:02.34 and 2:15.14.
Herman's freshman campaign is off to a hot start with two more victories in the 50 free and 100 free. Herman finished the 50 free in 24.70 while finishing the 100 in 54.53.
Freshman Kaitlin Patt and Bella Mugno each earned a pair of wins on the day. Patt earned wins in the 100 and 200 fly, touching the wall in 1:00.64 in the 100 and 2:16.41 in the 200. Patt improved on both of her times by more than a second. Mugno picked up wins in the 200 breaststroke and in the 200 IM with times of 2:34.78 and 2:17.95.
Relay winners Gould and Snyder also earned solo wins as Gould edged out Snyder in the 200 free while Snyder picked up a win in the 500 free. Gould finished the 200 free in 2:01.43 while Snyder finished just behind with a time of 2:01.53. Snyder won the 500 free with a time of 5:26.51. Gould improved on her season-opening time in the event after winning the race in the Drew meet with a time of 2:02.24. Snyder beat her season-opening time in the 500 by over two seconds.
The final Catholic winner in the pool was Caitie Heise who earned a win in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:20.38.
Freshman Lucy McHale had a dominant diving performance, winning both the one-meter and three-meter dives with scores of 181.90 and 186.60.
Next up, Catholic heads to Randolph-Macon on November 5 for a meet with the Yellow Jackets.
