WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team earned a season-opening victory over Drew on Saturday afternoon, taking the meet by a score of 192-99.
The Cardinal women won 14 events on Saturday, opening up the meet with a 200-yard medley relay victory. Freshman Emily Albans, senior Madeline Doucette, freshman Kaitlin Patt and freshman Katie Herman combined for the victory.
Sophomore Ava Snyder earned wins in the 1,000 and 500 with times of 11:07.19 and 5:28.58 in a successful Saturday afternoon.
Following up the win in the opening relay, Albans also picked up wins in the 100-yard backstroke (59.62), 200-yard backstroke (2:13.25), and as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Joining Albans in the 200-yard free relay win were Herman, senior Emma Gould, and Patt with a time of 1:41.05.
Gould picked up a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.24, winning the event by more than two seconds.
Herman also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.10, taking it by more than a second, and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.72.
Patt won the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.08) and finished second in the 200-yard butterfly.
In a tightly contested race, freshman Bella Mugno picked up a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:11.52, winning the event by .32 seconds. Mugno also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.34.
Freshman Lucy McHale won both the one-meter and three-meter dives with scores of 163.10 and 161.75 respectively.
Catholic returns to action on October 29th with a meet versus Scranton.
