Filiault Leads Cardinals to Sixth Place at Hornet Harrier

WINCHESTER, Va. - Catholic University women's cross country senior Alex Filiault finished 22nd at the Hornet Harrier Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University at Kernstown Battlefield on Saturday to lead the Cardinals to a sixth-place team finish.

Catholic, who is ranked at No. 9 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South/Southeast Region, finished two spots ahead of Christopher Newport who is at No. 10.

Salisbury finished first with 54 points, just three ahead of Mary Washington who is ranked seventh in the region.

"The women had a strong showing today," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Steve Rahn. "We were without our top three runners women today, but we were able to stay focused and finish with only 1:13 between our first to fifth runners."

Filiault was the first Cardinal to cross the line in a time of 21:08.2 while freshman Zoe Zelch also finished in the top-30 with a time of 21:25 to place 27th.

Freshman Danielle Ohrtman was 43rd at 21:59.3 while senior Emily Snyder was 49th at 22:04.1. Freshman Alexandra Niggemann rounded out the top five for the Cardinals in 55th.

Catholic heads to Bethlehem, Pa., next Saturday, Oct. 5 for the prestigious Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
