TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's lacrosse freshman Rachel Searle was named Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after picking up her first career win on Saturday with a 14-12 victory over No. 15 Cortland.
Searle is the first Cardinal to earn player of the week honors this season and the first freshman to earn conference player of the week honors since current junior Nanci Hernandez was named Defensive Player of the Week on April 24, 2017.
Saturday's game featured six ties and four lead changes. The Red Dragons led 6-5 at halftime before Catholic made the switch in goal to Searle. She finished with two saves in her second career appearance, playing the entire second half to pick up her first win.
The Cardinals host No. 2 and 2009 national champion Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday in the first game on the newly renovated Carlini Field. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
