ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Led by 16 points and six rebounds from senior Sydney Poindexter, the Catholic University women's basketball team posted its fifth-straight win with an 80-48 victory over Penn State Abington Friday at the Scotty Wood Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg.
The Cardinals (5-0), who are one win shy of their best start since the 2016-17 season, outscored the Nittany Lions 25-8 in the first quarter.
Poindexter scored 10 of her 16 points in the first quarter, including the first seven of the game. She made the second of two free throws with 1:02 left to give Catholic a 23-4 lead.
The Cards scored seven of the first nine points to open the second quarter, including five from sophomore Amanda Johnson, to take a 22-point advantage with 8:07 remaining.
Johnson finished with 11 points and four assists while sophomore Luca Mamula had 10 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore Maggie Bednarek had a career-high nine points, six of which came in the third quarter as the Cardinals outscored Penn State Abington, 24-12.
Catholic will play the winner between Muhlenberg and Neumann on Saturday at 6 p.m.
