TOWSON, Md. - For a second time this year, junior goalkeeper Jack Long of the Catholic University men's soccer team has been named Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Long earned a shutout win last week in a 2-0 victory over Elizabethtown for the No. 21 Cardinals, a squad in the midst of a four-game win streak that has not allowed a goal in a span of 408:40.
The Manasquan, N.J. native made three saves against the Blue Jays to earn his 12th clean sheet of the season. Five of Catholic's seven Landmark wins have come on shutout performances from the goalkeeper.
Long leads the conference in wins (14), goals allowed average (0.62), and shutouts (12).
The award is Long's second of the season, after he earned the accolade on Sept. 16 following two clean sheet wins over non-conference opponents Randolph Macon and Dickinson.
The next match for the top-seeded Cardinals is the Landmark Conference semifinal match on Tuesday. Catholic will host fourth-seeded Moravian for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Carlini Field.
