TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University men's soccer forward Ben Alexander had two game-winning goals and played his part in two more victories this past week, earning him Landmark Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Alexander helped the Cardinals extend their winning streak to five games and unbeaten streak to eleven with a couple game-winners against Eastern and Drew.
The sophomore forward scored the winner against 2018 NCAA Tournament quarterfinalists Eastern in the 72nd minute after stealing the ball from a defender and finishing one-on-one against the goalkeeper for the 3-2 win. He then scored the lone goal in an intense conference victory over Drew in the 51st minute.
The Bel Air, Md. native sits tied for the lead in the Landmark Conference in goals (8) and points (18). He has already exceeded his 2018 goal total of six, which led the Cardinals a year go.
This is the second time Alexander has earned conference athlete of the week honors. He received the same accolade on Oct. 22, 2018 after a two-goal week that included two conference victories.
The Cardinals travel to play local foe Gallaudet tomorrow, Tuesday, October 8. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
