Men’s Lacrosse Edged at Goucher, 6-5

Towson, Md. — The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team had a late rally in Landmark Conference game at Goucher on Wednesday night but came up just short, 6-5.

Catholic trailed by three with less than two minutes left but scored two goals in 20 seconds to make it a one-score game. It was the Gophers that came out on top however in a battle of goalkeepers.

Goucher's Matt Messerle made 17 save in the contest to come away with the win as the Cardinals' Jack Schmidt made 12 stops of his own to keep the Cards in the game until the final buzzer.

The Gophers led 4-1 at the half but goals by senior Bennett Bradley and freshman Owen Smith made it a one-score game with just over 12 minutes left in the fourth.

Goucher answered with two goals to take command but scores by senior Daniel Cannon and Bradley put the Cardinals within striking distance with less than 90 seconds left in regulation.

Catholic got two shot attempts off in the final 50 seconds but could not get one past Messerle to force overtime.

Both Bradley and Smith finished with two-score days as Bradley added an assist for a three-point night.

Catholic now has two games remaining on their regular-season schedule which become must-win affairs beginning with a road contest at Moravian this Saturday.
