WASHINGTON, D.C. — After securing its eighth Landmark Conference title and the first three-peat in conference history, the Catholic men's soccer discovered where it will be playing in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals are heading to Cortland, N.Y. to take on the Mammoths of Amherst as the pod will be hosted by Cortland.
The Cardinals are making their sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 10th overall after winning their fifth Landmark title in the last six seasons. Catholic holds a 3-8-1 record all-time in the NCAA Tournament, coming off a 2-1 defeat against Ohio Wesleyan last season in the First Round.
Catholic's deepest run in the tournament came in the 2022 season when they went into the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history, picking up victories over Lynchburg and Christopher Newport both by scores of 2-0 before falling to Johns Hopkins in the Sweet 16. The Cardinals advanced past the opening round on one other occasion, 2014, when they took down Coast Guard 2-0 before falling to Muhlenberg in the Second Round, 5-3 on penalty kicks.
The other two teams in the pod are the hosts Cortland (12-1-5), who earned an at-large bid after falling in the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament, and SUNY Delhi (12-3-5), who earned an automatic bid by capturing the NAC Championship 3-2 over Thomas (Me.).
The Cardinals have not squared off with any of the other three teams in the regional in the postseason in the program's history. This will be the first ever matchup between Catholic and Amherst as the Mammoths come into the tournament as the defending national champions after beating Connecticut College 4-3 on PK's in the championship last season.
Catholic's match with Amherst is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 on T. Fred Holloway Field. The contest is set to kickoff at 1:30 pm.
