Box Score Swarthmore, Pa. - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team's season came to a close on Sunday night, being defeated 1-0 by No. 13 Swarthmore College in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Cardinals wrap up their 2015 season with a 17-3 record while the Garnet advance to the Sweet Sixteen with an 18-2-1 record.
After a 1-0 victory over No. 19 Ithaca in the first round, Saturday evening, Catholic gave a valiant effort in round two looking to continue their 2015 post season run.
No. 13 Swarthmore's goal came in the 41st minute when Garnet's sophomore, Sarah Hanock, fired a shot into the back of the net from ten yards out. The Cards out shot the Garnet 10-8 in the second half, but were unable to capitalize.
CUA's senior goalkeeper Lexi Halperin made a season high 9 saves throughout the contest against the nationally-ranked opponent. She came up big for the Cardinals on several occasions, highlighted by stopping a Swarthmore penalty kick in the 53rd minute.
Junior Lindsay Aleman, Catholic's leading goal scorer, led the team with four shots while Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, Taylor Pisk, and junior Alyssa Fiore each took two.
In 2015, CUA earned their second consecutive Landmark Conference title and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA DIII tournament for the second year in a row under head coach J.P. Sousa.
Sousa garnered back-to-back Landmark Coach of the Year honors, while Aleman was selected as the conference's 2015 Offensive Player of the Year.
