HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Catholic University women's indoor track and field team earned eleven total personal records and 20 top five finishes at the Larry Sharp Memorial Invitational, hosted by Hagerstown Community College, on Sunday.
Junior Grace Boras led the charge for the Cardinals by setting three school records. Her 7.73 in the 55m took first place and set a new school best. She followed with another win in the 300m event with a 45.38 time that not only beat the nearest competition by more than three full seconds, but also set another Catholic record.
Senior Andrea Galeano continued her impressive performance in the field, winning both the weight throw and shot put events. Her last weight throw shot was a 16.95m, good for a five meter win and the 10th best throw in all of Division III.
Senior Kiera Lyons took the top spot in the 800m with a winning time of 2:28.38, while Carlini (2:31.48) and Tara Thorton (2:36.81) followed for third and fourth place, respectively.
"The women had an outstanding meet today. Grace and Andrea had really big days. Grace set school records and won the 55m dash, 300m, and a part of the Sprint Medley Relay (along with Madeline Baker, Natalie Troy, and Victoria Carlini)," said Director Steve Rahn. "Andrea won two events and had a huge last throw in the weight putting her tied for 10th in the Division III currently. Kiera also won an event for the Cards in the 800m. Overall, we had a great day with 11 total PRs and 20 top five finishes. The sprinters had an exceptional day especially with 4 women in the finals of the 55m dash. The team looks great with less than two weeks from conference champs."
The Cardinals will compete against conference competition next Saturday, February 16 at the Susquehanna Invitational.
