WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University women's tennis sophomore Jill Broom and freshman Claire Keller made their collegiate debuts on Friday, posting singles victories and teaming up for a win at No. 3 doubles in a 9-0 victory over local foe Trinity (DC) at The Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (2-1) posted their fourth-straight win at home and improved their record to 8-0 against the Tigers since 2010.
All three of Catholic's doubles teams made their season debuts on Friday. Broom and Keller got things started with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 before freshman Bridget McCabe and sophomore Josie Cost followed with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Catholic took a 3-0 lead after sophomore Kathleen O'Connell and junior Bridget Kilkelly also posted an 8-0 victoey at No. 1 doubles.
Broom opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 4 doubles before sophomore Megan Hughes sealed the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Like Broom, Keller picked up her first career singles and doubles victories after posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Mychala Coughlin was the third Cardinal to make her collegiate debut as she picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Catholic returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Gettysburg beginning at 1 p.m.
