TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's tennis sophomore Colleen McLaughlin posted two wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, but Goucher won the first four singles matches to rally for a 6-3 victory over the Cardinals Wednesday.
McLaughlin accounted for two of three wins for Catholic (4-10, 1-4 LC), pairing with senior Lisa Genadry for an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles before posting a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) win over Kyoko Kinoshita in the final match of the day at No. 6 singles.
McLaughlin and Genadry posted their first win in three matches together this season while McLaughlin won her team-leading seventh singles match, improving to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the Landmark Conference.
The Cardinals led 2-1 after doubles as the team of sophomore Grace Connell and Elizabeth Ast, teammed together for the first time this season, took an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to even the match at 1-1 after the Gophers won at No. 1, 8-5.
Goucher (6-9, 2-3 LC) sealed the match after victories at No. 1, No. 5, No. 4 and No. 2 singles. After the Gophers posted straight set victories in the first three singles matches, freshman Brooke Simonson battled Mandile Mpofu to a third at No. 2 after winning the second set, 6-4, before falling, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
Catholic hosts Juniata on Saturday in its final home match of the season beginning at 1 p.m. It will also be the final home match in the careers of Genadry, Ast and senior Erin Cole.
