WASHINGTON D.C. - The Catholic University women's tennis fell in a close 4-5 match against York (Pa.) on Sunday.
The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead after doubles actions. Senior Erin Cole and sophomore Grace Connell won the first doubles 8-3. Freshman Brooke Simonson and junior Lauren Edwards followed with an 8-5 victory in the second doubles. Freshman Hannah Clark and sophomore Colleen McLaughlin fell in a well fought 6-8 loss.
Catholic would go on to win two of the six singles contests. Cole performed well in the first singles match but fell 0-6, 1-6. Connell followed and clinched a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the third singles, before Simonson battled to win a close 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 match in the second singles.
McLaughlin represented the Cards in the fourth singles and fell in a well played 4-6, 2-6 match. Edwards followed with a strong performance, ending in a tough 3-6, 6-4, 5-6 loss. Sophomore Bridget Kilkelly played well but fell 3-6, 3-6.
Catholic will return to action for their spring competition on Saturday, March 2 at Salisbury University.
