BEL AIR, Md. - The Catholic University women's tennis team began its 2018-19 season on Saturday with a 6-3 victory over Harford Community College.
The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead after doubles actions. Senior Elizabeth Ast and junior Lauren Edwards won the second doubles, followed by an 8-0 victory in the third doubles for freshman Brooke Simonson and freshman Hannah Clark.
Catholic would go on to win four of the six singles contests. Simonson would win the first singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at third singles. The Cardinals then proceeded to win the next three matches. Sophomore Bridget Kilkelly recorded a 7-6 (11-9), 1-4 win with sophomore Christina Cochrane following with a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 7-5 victory. Freshman Olivia Sensenbrenner would add one more with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the sixth singles.
Catholic will return to action on Saturday, September 22 at the ITA Regionals.
