ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Catholic University women's rowing team officially kicked off its second season in school history on Saturday at the Head of the Genesee at Genesee Valley Park.
The Cardinals competed in the Womens Collegiate varsity eight. Coxed by Bridget Llull and stroked by Meghan Walsh, the Cards finished eighth out of 10 teams in a time of 20:18.17.
"I was really excited for the women to compete at this race," said head coach Katie O'Driscoll. "The competition was almost exclusively Division III and schools that we wouldn't usually see at regattas in the Mid-Atlantic. In this, our second year as a program, it was nice to see how we stacked against more established programs in our division."
Catholic was the only school not from the state of New York to compete in the race. Hamilton finished first in a time of 17:59.38 while RIT came in second at 18:35.69. William Smith, St. Lawrence and Ithaca rounded out the top five.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, Pa.
