WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University head women's lacrosse coach Meghan McDonogh announced the hiring of Katie McDonough as an assistant coach. McDonough comes to Catholic after spending the 2019 season as an assistant coach at Lycoming College.
Lycoming finished the 2019 season with three-straight wins to post a 5-11 record, including a mark of 3-5 in the MAC Commonwealth, just one win shy of reaching the conference tournament. McDonough helped mentor two all-conference selections in senior Kelly McGinniss and junior Hailey Kimble. A first team honoree, McGinniss set the NCAA's All-Divisions record for draw controls in a season last year with 239 while leading the league with 80 goals. Kimble earned second team accolades, finishing the year with 36 goals, 18 assists and 54 points.
McDonough began her coaching career as an assistant for the Long Island Express in 2016 and 2017 before joining Team 91 as an assistant in 2018. This past summer, she was an assistant coach with Lanco Elite.
As a player, McDonough was a two-time national finalist and team captain at Division II Lock Haven University from 2014-18. She played in 58 career games on defense while making 38 starts and totaling 82 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers as the Bald Eagles to back-to-back Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) titles and advanced to the national championship game in 2014 and 2015.
McDonough started all 36 of the team's games over her final two seasons while totaling 71 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers, including a career-best five in a 13-7 win over Slippery Rock at home as a senior on March 20, 2018.
A native of Oakdale, N.Y., McDonough received a bachelor of science in sports administration from Lock Haven in 2017 before earning a master of science in sports and exercise psychology in 2018 while serving as a graduate assistant in sports administration. She was also an athletic department intern with the West Islip School District in the summer of 2017.
McDonogh also announced the addition of Hannah Thomas as a graduate assistant. A 2017 graduate and member of the women's lacrosse team at Franklin & Marshall College, Thomas spent the 2019 season as an assistant coach at Haverford.
