TOWSON, Md. – The Catholic University women's lacrosse team was picked to win its league-leading 11th conference title in the Landmark Conference preseason poll released on Tuesday.
The Cardinals, who finished 15-7 a year ago and undefeated in the Landmark Conference for the fifth-straight year, were a unanimous selection, receiving all 70 points. Scranton was picked second with 58 points.
Moravian was picked third with 46 points while just six points separated fourth through sixth place. Drew (31) was fourth, followed by Elizabethtown (30) and Susquehanna (25). Susquehanna is the only other team to win a championship since the league was founded in 2007-08.
The Cardinals open Landmark Conference play at home on Saturday, March 23 against Elizabethtown.
Catholic, who was ranked at No. 15 in the IWLCA Preseason Coaches Poll, has won 31 consecutive conference contests dating back to the 2013 season. The Cardinals are 56-2 in league games and have won 10 of 11 conference championships.
Catholic opens the season at home on Sunday, February 24 against No. 4 Salisbury in the team's first game on the newly renovated Carlini Field. Opening draw is at 1 p.m.
