TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's basketball junior Sydney Poindexter was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on Monday after averaging 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 blocks in two Landmark Conference contests last week.
This is the first weekly honor for Poindexter and the first for the Cardinals this season. The last Catholic player to earn athlete of the week from the conference was Briana Bull on Feb. 5, 2018.
After totaling 11 points and five rebounds at Elizabethtown, Poindexter posted her second double double of the season and third of her career on Saturday to lead the Cardinals past Susquehanna. She totaled 20 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs, while making 10 of 13 free throws, including 6 of 8 in the fourth quarter. She scored eight of the team's 24 points in the decisive fourth quarter.
Catholic trailed by as many as nine before taking its first lead since the 9:52 mark of the opening quarter with 5:02 remaining in the game. A 16-4 run over a span of 4:32 erased a six-point deficit and gave the Cards a six-point lead, 53-47 with 3:01 left.
The Cards return to action on Wednesday when they host Goucher at Franny Murray Court beginning at 7 p.m.
