WASHINGTON, D.C. – Moravian made 13 of its final 14 free throws in a 75-70 overtime victory over the Catholic University women's basketball team in Landmark Conference action on Saturday at Franny Murray Court.
The Greyhounds' Maddie Capuano led all scorers with 27 points and was 11 of 12 from the line. She scored Moravian's final four points in regulation to force the extra session.
Junior Mollie Reynolds had 11 points, six assists, three steals and a career-high nine rebounds.
Karlie Brogan had 18 points for the Greyhounds (10-3, 2-0 Landmark). Nadine Ewald added nine points and a game-high 13 boards.
Poindexter's jumper gave the Cardinals their only lead in overtime, 64-62. Moravian answered with a 9-2 run, scoring seven of its points from the line. Jennifer McClave missed all five of her field goal attempts but was 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. She punctuated the Greyhounds' game-clinching spurt with four consecutive free throws to put her team on top, 73-66, with 16.8 seconds to play.
Moravian finished 27 of 34 (79 percent) from the line. The Cards were 12 of 20 (60 percent).
Reynold's driving layup with 2:43 to go in regulation gave Catholic a 61-55 lead. Capuano assisted on a Brogan 3-pointer, made a layup and sank two free throws in a 7-1 spurt to tie the game at 62 with 11.1 seconds remaining before overtime.
Capuano scored 12 points in the first half on 4 of 13 shooting to power Moravian to a 33-27 halftime lead. She finished 7 of 22 from the field.
Freshman Ashley Smith took a drive-and-kick pass from Reynolds to nail a 3-pointer just before the end of the third period to draw Catholic to within 48-46. Poindexter tied the game at 51 with the first three-pointer of her career.
The Cardinals host Juniata on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
