TOWSON Md. - The Catholic University softball team was selected fourth in the 2019 Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday.
The defending conference champions, Moravian, took the top spot with 57 points and five first-place votes. Behind the Greyhounds in the No. 2 sport were the Royals of Scranton with 44 points and two first-place votes.
After making their eighth-straight Landmark Conference Tournament appearance, the Cards will look to make another strong run this year. Catholic welcomes back top returners, All-Landmark honoree junior Sabrina Scott and NFCA All-Region selection sophomore Makayla Czan.
Scott returns to the circle after a successful sophomore campaign posting a 3.16 ERA with 40 strikeouts. She will be joined by the All-Landmark First Team honoree Czan, who led the team last season with a .417 avg and 50 hits, six of which were home runs.
Catholic is scheduled to begin their season at home with a doubleheader against the returning MAC Commonwealth Champions, Messiah College on Saturday, March 2. The team will then hit the road for their spring break trip to the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Cardinals will start Landmark Conference play upon returning home with a doubleheader against Elizabethtown on Saturday, March 16.
The Landmark Conference Championship Tournament is set for Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.
