Bethlehem, Pa. — The Catholic University of America softball team had the unenviable task of opening the Landmark Conference Tournament at the No. 6 nationally-ranked Moravian Greyhounds as the Cardinals were topped, 7-0.
Landmark Pitcher of the Year Josie Novak limited Catholic to one hit as she struck out nine in a complete-game effort.
Senior all-conference designated player Megan Colline went 1-for-3 in the game and broke up Novak's potential no-hitter.
Errors compounded things for Catholic as four miscues allowed three unearned runs to cross.
Sophomore All-Landmark pitcher Sabrina Scott drew the start but was touched for four earned runs in 3.2 innings. Rookie Allie Lajeunesse came on in relief and did not allow an earned run and added a strikeout over 2.1 frames.
The Cardinals remain alive in the playoffs and will face No. 3 Susquehanna in an elimination game tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
