McCarthy Cracks Top 20 in 400-IM at NCAA Championships

Indianapolis, Ind. - Freshman Gregory McCarthy of The Catholic University of America men's swimming and diving team made his mark at the Landmark Conference Championships and is now competing with the nation's fastest at the NCAA DIII Swimming and Diving Championships.

After two days of competition, McCarthy, the Landmark men's Swimmer and Rookie of the Year, finished 19th in the nation in the 400-individual medley (4:00.96) and 35th in the 200-individual medley (1:53.48).

The Silver Spring, Md., native is set to swim the 200-breaststroke for his final race of the DIII National Championships on Saturday, March 24. Prelims begin at 10 a.m.

McCarthy is the first male swimmer to represent Catholic University at the National Championships since recent Hall of Famer John Cooper competed in 1997.
