Kelley started rowing at Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury, MA. After graduation, Gavin walked on to the men’s heavyweight team at Marist College. He competed for the Red Foxes for two years before transferring to Boston College.
While taking night classes at BC, Kelley worked as an assistant coach with BC Men’s Crew. The Eagles won back to back team points trophies at the New England Rowing Championships in 2014 and 2015. During those years Gavin also worked with junior rowers in the afternoons. After three years as the novice boys coach at St. John’s High School (2012-14), he served as the Head Coach for the Varsity Girls at Wayland-Weston Rowing Association (2014-2015) and Hingham High School (2016).
Over the summers, Kelley has benefited from his work as a volunteer assistant coach with CRI’s High Performance Group. He worked daily with the lightweight men’s squad in 2015 that represented the United States at the World Championships in Aiguebelette, France, where they earned a bronze medal in the lightweight eight event. That camp also sent four lightweights to Club Nationals in 2015, where they won gold in the Senior Lightweight Pair, Intermediate Lightweight Single, and silver in the Senior Lightweight 4. In the summer of 2016 he was the assistant coach for the CRI U23 Men’s Squad.
Kelley is pursuing a graduate degree in Business Management at Catholic University.
