ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Catholic University men's rowing team officially kicked off its second season in school history on Saturday at the Head of the Genesee at Genesee Valley Park.
The Cardinals competed in the varsity four and varsity eight. Coxed by Matt Smith and stroked by Etienne Karlsekind, the Cards finished 13th out of 17 teams in a time of 20:30.18. Of the 17 teams that finished the varsity four, Catholic and Bucknell were the only two schools not from the state of New York.
Christian Bordak-Roseman coxed the Cards in the varsity eight as they finished sixth out of nine teams.
"The men worked really hard at finding that right pace for this 5,000 meter race," said head coach Katie O'Driscoll. "The last time they went down a race course, it was a 2,000 sprint in the spring. A fall head race is quite different and requires a different pacing strategy. I think they've done a great job finding that sweet spot of pressure and sustainability in practice and I enjoyed seeing them execute their race strategy this weekend."
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, Pa.
