TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team was picked to finish sixth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll released on Wednesday.
The Cardinals, who finished 8-8 a year ago and 2-4 in the Landmark Conference, received 13 points, just two behind fifth-place Moravian. Elizabethtown was picked as the preseason favorite with 60 points and six first-place votes after winning the last two Landmark titles.
Scranton came in second with 39 points and one first-place vote while Susquehanna was third with just one point separating the two.
The Cardinals open Landmark Conference play at Elizabethtown on Saturday, March 23. The first home conference contest will be one week later versus Moravian on Saturday, March 30.
The Cards have won two of the last four conference titles, winning in 2015 and 2016 while dropping a 12-7 decision to Elizabethtown in the 2017 championship game. Since 2015, Catholic has won 44 conference contests, second only to Elizabethtown's 50.
Since Landmark Conference play began in 2008, the Cardinals have posted the second-most wins overall with 104, trailing only Goucher (110).
Catholic opens the season at home on Tuesday, February 12 against Southern Virginia. Faceoff is at 4 p.m. The contest will mark the team's inaugural game at Carlini Field.
