ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. - The Catholic University men's golf team placed 14th in the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals recorded a team score of 636 over two rounds for 14th out of 18 competing teams at The Bridges Golf Club.
McDaniel took first place with an overall score of 593 (+17) on the par 72, 6713-yard course. No other team shot below 600. Fellow Landmark schools Goucher (607), Drew (627), and Susquehanna (649) placed third, 11th, and 16th, respectively.
Sophomore Alex Freedman led the team with a 158 (+14) score over two rounds. Freedman shot a team-low 76 on Saturday and followed with an 82 on Sunday to tie for 52nd out of 96 competing golfers.
The other four Cardinal golfers all shot within two strokes of each other to round out the scoring five. Sophomore Zach Mueller and freshman Jimmy Murphy both shot 161 (+17) to tie for 62nd place overall. Murphy carded a 77 on Sunday for the team's second best round.
Up next for the Cardinals is the Landmark Fall Preview Tournament on Saturday, October 5. Catholic will compete against its conference foes at Scotch Valley Country Club in Hollidaysburg, Pa. in a one-day tournament.
