Anderson's Hat Trick Lifts Catholic Past Goucher, 8-0

TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University field hockey team posted a shutout over Goucher on the road Wednesday in a Landmark Conference contest, 8-0.

The win marked the largest margin of victory for the Cardinals (7-7, 3-1 LC) since a 12-0 win over Moravian on Oct. 15, 2016.

Catholic scored quickly in the first quarter at 8:34 with a goal from junior midfielder Kelly Cancelmo off an assist from classmate Meghan Shallow.

Shortly after, Cancelmo provided an assist to sophomore defender Grace Jung. One minute later, senior forward Katie Anderson netted her first goal of the night, unassisted. She scored two more times in the third and fourth quarter off assists from Cancelmo and freshman forward Madeline Garcia.

Sophomore forward Hannah Bateman finished Shallow's second assist at the end of the first quarter.

Junior forward Jess Waite put one up for Catholic with less than eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter with a setup from senior forward Alexandra DiFlorio.

Bateman sealed the deal with her second goal and Catholic's eighth of the game following a pass from sophomore defender Claire Flannery.

The Cards return to action on Saturday when they host Juniata at 5:30 p.m.
