Cardinals Fall to No. 6 TCNJ in Home Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University field hockey team opened its 2019 season on Saturday with a 4-0 loss against No. 6 TCNJ at Cardinal Stadium.

Saturday marked the third-straight year that the Cardinals (0-1) have opened the season against the Lions. TCNJ went 16-5 a year ago, losing to national champion Middlebury in the national quarterfinals. 

Cayla Andrews, who finished with three goals for the Lions, scored seven minutes into the game before adding tallies in both the second and third quarters, including one on a penalty stroke.

Junior Grace Olson and sophomore Grace Jung each registered a shot on goal for Catholic while junior Kim McGroary recorded two saves. 

The Cardinals host a non-conference contest against Gettysburg on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
