GAITHERSBURG, Md. - On Friday, Catholic University baseball rising senior Jack Ropelewski was named to the 2019 Cal Ripken College Baseball League (CRCBL) All-Star Game. Of the 57 players selected, he was the only one from Division III, joining 48 from Division I, five from Division II and four from Community College.
With no divisions in CRCBL this year, the All-Star Game will have a new format this year. Instead of North vs. South, the game will feature the three teams from Maryland against the three teams from Washington, DC and Virginia.
A member of the Gaithersburg Giants, Ropelewski is one of the team's eight all-star selections, including five pitchers as the team is tied for the league lead with 257 strikeouts, third with a 6.01 ERA and third with a .244 opponents' batting average.
Ropelewski is currently third on the team with nine appearances, posting a 2.25 ERA and 19 strikeouts over 12.0 innings while picking up one win and one save. In his longest outing of the season, he struck out five of the nine batters he faced in 2.1 innings of work against the Alexandria Aces on June 14.
Ropelewski appeared in 13 for the Cardinals this spring, totaling a 2-2 record with one save and a 4.57 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 21.2 innings, for an average of and is averaging 8.72 strikeouts per game.
In 37 career appearances, Ropelewski is 9-4 with two saves and a 4.20 ERA. He has struck out 63 over 60.0 innings for an average of 9.45 per game.
Ropelewski is one of two current Cardinals in the CRCBL this summer along with rising junior Ethan Risse who plays for the DC Grays.
The All-Star Game will be take place at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, July 10 at Shirley Povich Field, home of the Bethesda Big Train and Division I Georgetown.
