WASHINGTON, D.C. - Fresh off earning his honor as the Landmark Athlete of the Week, junior Christian Jones of the Catholic University baseball team has been selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Just like the Landmark accolade, this is the outfielder's first career D3Baseball.com weekly honor.
In just four games, Jones had 10 hits in 12 at-bats with 10 RBIs and three home runs. He had just one homer in his previous two seasons combined. The Alamo, California native began the week with a grand slam in a rout over Gallaudet on Monday and ended it with a two-run bomb to extend the lead over Moravian on Sunday.
In the final game against Moravian, Jones reached base in all five of his at-bats, going 4-for-4 with a walk. In addition to a .750 batting average last week, he put together an astounding 1.583 slugging percentage. He also scored seven runs and walked twice.
With just 21 at-bats on the year, Jones boasts an impressive .476 batting average.
The last time a Cardinal hitter was named to the D3baseall.com Team of the Week was just over a year ago on April 10, 2018, when first basemen Brennan Cotter received the nod after 10 hits in 12 at-bats to help Catholic to a 3-1 week last season.
Catholic is back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader against St. Mary's (Md). First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Robert J. Talbot Field.
