TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University baseball junior Christian Jones was named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on Monday after a phenomenal week at the plate for the Cardinals who went 5-0 with a three-game sweep over conference foe Moravian.
This is the first career weekly honor for Jones.
In just four games, Jones went 9-for-12 with 10 RBIs and three home runs. He had just one homer in his previous two seasons combined. The Alamo, California native began the week with a grand slam in a rout over Gallaudet on Monday and ended it with a two-run bomb to extend the lead over Moravian on Sunday.
In the final game against Moravian, Jones reached base in all five of his at-bats, going 4-for-4 with a walk. In addition to a .750 batting average last week, he put together an astounding 1.583 slugging percentage. He also scored seven runs and walked twice.
With just 21 at-bats on the year, Jones boasts an impressive .476 batting average.
The stellar week moved the team into second place in the Landmark Conference standings. Catholic is currently riding an eight-game win streak headed into a doubleheader against St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday at Robert J. Talbot Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
