TOWSON, Md. - After two wins and a career-best performance on the mound last week, starting pitcher David Gately was named Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Gately picked up wins against Penn College in Myrtle Beach and then Elizabethtown College in the team's conference opening weekend series. The graduate student from Baltimore, Md. pitched 15 innings in the two outings, giving up just three earned runs and nine hits. He threw five strikeouts in each game and walked just two batters.
In the most complete performance of his career, Gately threw 94 pitches in nine innings to beat conference foe Elizabethtown, 5-2. He spread out five hits and walked just one batter. Gately struck out five and gave up just two earned runs in his second win of the season. The performance was Gately's first complete game nine-inning stint in his collegiate career. His longest outing previously was an eight-inning effort on May 12, 2015 in a 3-2 loss to Alvernia.
The right-hander threw six innings in a comfortable 15-3 win over Penn College at the Ripken Experience. He gave up just one earned run on four hits.
Catholic plays next on Thursday, March 21 against York (Pa.) at home. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
