Cotter, Crist & Mierzwa Make All-Region Teams

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America baseball team was honored with three selections to the All-Mid-Atlantic Regional Teams. Senior Brennan Cotter made the first team, while senior Jake Crist was on the second team and junior Jon Mierzwa on the third.

The trio led the Cardinals to Landmark Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles and a berth to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.

Cotter, an All-Landmark First Teamer for the second-straight season, continues to add to his trophy case this season as he was also the Landmark Tournament MVP. The first baseman posted a .370 batting average and a .676 slugging percentage. The Oakland, N.J., native set a new Landmark record for most RBIs in a season (70) and Catholic records for most home runs in a season (11) and most career home runs (19).

Crist joined with Cotter to form an imposing 3-4 in the order. The designated hitter set career highs with 36 runs scored, 55 hits, 13 doubles, seven home runs, 40 RBI, 33 walks, a .451 on-base percentage and a .539 slugging mark. He was a First Team All-Landmark selection this year.

Mierzwa, who earned his second-consecutive First-Team Landmark honor, makes its year two on the all-region team as he was third-teamer last season. He went 4-1 on the year and added a save in the title-clinching game of the Landmark Championship Tournament. He struck out 81 batters in 60.2 innings pitched for a 12.02 strikeouts per nine innings mark.

The 2018 season marks the seventh year that has named All-Region teams, with 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as staff and contributors.
