Cardinals Fall 5-1 to Saints

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America dropped their final regular season game, 5-1, to Marymount (Va.) in a nine inning game on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cardinals fell to an early deficit allowing the Saints a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Saints notched another in the fourth and two more in the bottom the fifth inning to go-ahead 4-0.

Catholic earned their only run of the event when David Gately led off the sixth inning with a solo homer over the right field fence. The Cards gave up one more in the bottom of the eight, and while they attempted a rally in the top of the ninth, they left three stranded for a 5-1 loss.

Josh Martin was charged with his first loss of the season after pitching four innings and tossing three strikeouts. Christopher Hutton saw the mound for an inning and Mark Duffy threw for two innings notching three strikeouts. Joseph Prego finished out the game on the rubber for the Cards, throwing two K's in the eighth inning.

The Cardinals will continue as the No. 4 seed into the Landmark Conference post season with a best of three series against the No. 1 seed University of Scranton. The first two games will take place Saturday, May 2 beginning at 11 a.m. The third game will be played Sunday, May 3 at 11 a.m. if necessary.
